Christmas 2008

December 7 - Christmas in Heaven . . .              (back)

Christmas in Heaven

by Wanda Bencke

I see the countless Christmas trees
around the world below
with tiny lights like heaven's stars
reflecting on the snow.

The sight is so spectacular,
please wipe away that tear
for I am spending Christmas
with Jesus Christ this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs
that people hold so dear
but the sounds of music can't compare
with the Christmas choir up here.

I have no words to tell you
of the joy their voices bring
for it is beyond description
to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me,
I see the pain inside your heart
for I am spending Christmas
with Jesus Christ this year.

I can't tell you of the splendor
or the peace here in this place
Can you just imagine Christmas
with our Savior face to face?

I'll ask him to lift your spirit
as I tell him of your love
so then pray for one another
as you lift your eyes above.

Please let your hearts be joyful
and let your spirit sing
for I am spending Christmas in heaven
and I'm walking with the King.

December 14 -  Christmas Love . . .             (back)

CHRISTMAS LOVE

by Sharon Jaynes

(
a paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 13)

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling
lights and shiny balls, but do not show love to my family, I'm just
another decorator.

If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies,
preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at
mealtime, but do not show love to my family, I'm just another cook.

If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all
that I have to charity, but do not show love to my family, it profits me
nothing.

If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes,
attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir's cantata but
do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child.

Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the spouse.

Love is kind, though harried and tired.

Love doesn't envy another's home that has coordinated

Christmas china and table linens.

Love doesn't yell at the kids to get out of the way.

Love doesn't give only to those who are able to give in return

but rejoices in giving to those who can't.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things,

endures all things.

Love never fails. Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost,
golf clubs will rust, but giving the gift of LOVE will endure.

December 21 - Candy Canes & Jesus . . .             (back)

Candy Canes & Jesus

White is the symbol of purity, fresh like a blanket of new powdered Spring snow that covers drab and dead things and washes away winter dirt. By asking Jesus to come into our lives He washes away dead works and filth in our hearts and minds, we become fresh and new, too."

The red is for the blood He shed at Calvary where He died on the cross for our sins, the stripes are reminders of the stripes on His back where he was beaten. We don't need to beat ourselves up over things we realize we did wrong. Jesus already took the beating, and paid the ultimate price. All we have to do is repent and pray for forgiveness in His name."

"The candy is in the shape of a cane as a reminder to lean on Jesus when we are tired and weary, when the burdens we carry become too heavy. Turn the cane upside down, it is the letter 'J' for Jesus. Finally, the candy is sweet, and the peppermint flavor is refreshing. That's how it feels to know Jesus is with me."

December 28 - Thank God for Winter's Little Blessings . . .               (back)

Thank God for Winter’s Little Blessings

Thank God for the little things
That fill our hearts with love,
For all of these reminders
Sent from Heaven up above...

For snowflakes that fall
To cover the ground,
For the fire we've made
And it's warm crackling sound.

For a cup of hot cocoa,
A spot of cider or tea,
Or perhaps maybe just
A simple mug of coffee.

I'm thankful for all
Of the different ways
To warm one's heart
On a cold winter's day.

For the comforts
Of our home so sweet,
A snuggly warm bed
And soul food to eat.

For the children all playing
Out in the bright snow,
And how their smiles
Set my heart aglow.

For the songs we sing
Of joy, peace and love;
For good tidings we pray
To our Father above.

Though it surely may be
Quite frigid outside,
We will always be warm
With the Lord as our guide.

For all the joy
His kindness brings;
I find my sprits lifted up,
For He truly gives my soul it's wings.

Oh, thank you Lord,
For all of winter's little blessings...

Bonus - All Through the Year . . .                  (back)

All Through the Year...

Keep life simple
And your heart full of love!

At this time of year
It's easy to get caught up

In the rush of the season.

Remember this season is one of love.
As long as you think, act and speak of love
Every moment
You will be in the spirit of Christmas
All through the year!
